API Monitoring vs Traditional Logging

Records tell you what happened. Monitoring helps you decide what needs attention.

Logs provide a record

Application logs can preserve events that help investigate issues. Their usefulness depends on meaningful context, consistent structure, and access to the right information.

Monitoring adds a review process

A monitoring workflow examines activity for patterns that may warrant attention. Alerts are more useful when someone owns their review and understands the evidence behind them.

Collect deliberately

Avoid recording passwords, access tokens, or unnecessary personal data. Plan what to record, who can read it, and how long it is needed before increasing log volume.
